Confused with the whole ' advanced format' deal

I recently bought a WD20EARS 2tb internal hard drive, and I can't seem to get it to work. I bought it for use with my desktop but at the moment im mobile, so I'm using it on my laptop. I should mention that I DO NOT intend to boot from this drive. II have a CoolDrives sata to usb adapter that I always use for my laptop with my internal drives, and I never have issues with my other drives. anyway, the drive powers on and I can hear it spinning but it doesn't show up under my computer. All of my research has led me to believe that the reason is because of the new advanced format system, and the fact that it's a brand new drive and it doesn't have a ' volume ' on it, or a partition. Either Way, I'm thoroughly confused. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using windows 7, 32bit. it shows up under device manager as sata to usb bridge, and when I go to properties I can see that it had about 1.8tb on it.. But the drive itself is not accessible

Re: Confused with the whole ' advanced format' deal

What about on Disk Management? (Control Panel --Large Icon view--> Administrative tools> Computer Management> Storage> Disk Management) That's the place you need to go to create the initial partition, if it is there that is.

If not.... You may need a Desktop computer just to connect the drive internally, format it (Same place, Disk Management) and then put it back on the case.

I hope it helps!
