Ran WD Align on new HD> "All partitions are already properly aligned. No further actions required." [ Edited ]

Hello.

I bought a 1TB (WD10EZEX), and since I'm running Windows XP Home SP3 32 bit, I downloaded and installed Acronis WD Align per the info on this site.

When I run WD Align I get the message:

"All partitions are already properly aligned. No further actions required."

I'll get the above quote if I ran it through Windows or if I use a bootable disc using Media Builder, or if I have both drives connected or just the new drive. (The other is an old Seagate. Both are S-ATA).

Is there any way to confirm that the drive is ready to go? Can I 'unalign' the disc somehow and then run WD Align? Any sugggestions?

I was thinking that I could be getting the message because:

a) Someone bought the drive, ran WD Align, returned it for some reason, and then the store sold it as new. The store denies selling used as new.

b) There's a problem with my PC, or the drive, that's giving the program the wrong info.

Hi this is a problem I have run into also. Stores like staples will allow people to buy a hard drive take it home open it try to install it drop it on the floor or what ever noobs do to hard drives and when they cant get it to work staples allows them to return the drive, then  there top class LOL A + cert techs then are supposed to check it out they recertify the drive and its put back on the shelf for the next unsuspecting person to buy. Any store that has this policy for example if you can return the drive you have to where you bought it  saying your pc just does not support this drive well they are doing it also. From my experiance with there techs they cant install a 3 tb drive properly as I get people that have brought them to me to install after they had the A+ techs try to make them work.

You can also use a jumper on pins 7/8 instead of using the align tool.

Bump in hopes that someone who understood my question can give me an answer.

Bought a NEW drive. Running Windows XP. There are no jumpers on the 7/8 pins. WD Align says it's already aligned.

Is there any alternate way to confirm that the new drive I purchased is really aligned?

The Disk Alignment Test says my Caviar HD is NOT aligned, whereas WD Align says the HD is aligned.

Any ideas why WD Align will not work on my drive? I'm at a loss.

Hi well this is the thing different programs give different readings so when you get into doing this it really comes down to what one you want to believe. For myself WD made the drive and made a program specifically to align there drives and that is what I would go by. Most likely if you used a different program to align it the WD one would say its not aligned  so what then. Sorry but that's about all I can say on it, unless one of the other users has a idea

Could we see the partition table and boot sector with Microsoft's Sector Inspector?

Extract the above archive to the one folder and execute the SIrun.bat file. The procedure will generate a report file named SIout.txt.

We will be able to confirm beyond doubt whether your partition is aligned by examining the information in the partition table, specifically the starting sectors for each partition.

The file is 21,188 characters, and I'm getting a message that I cannot exceed 20,000 characters per post, so I'll split the post, but post everything.

I ran SIrun.bat twice. Once with a jumper on 7/8 and once without, and the 'FC' command says the files are the same (except for the time it was run), so I'll just post 1 file.

Just a reminder that the one HD is a 80GB (with 2 ~40GB partitions) non WD, while the other is a 1TB WD Caviar Blue.
