What a happy day I thought this was going to be when I left Best Buy this morning. I rushed home to install my new hard drive. I am planning on using this drive in one of those external enclosures. When I start up my pc, I can tell that the bios recognizes the usb hard drive but when Windows starts up it is no where to be found. Whats the deal with that? What do I need to do to get Windows to recognize the drive?

Did you partition and format your drive?

I believe I see it using the USB Device viewer. This is the only thing I can see that it might be.

As far as using the disk management the only thing that shows up on it is my c: amd d: drives. I have not formatted or partitioned the new drive because it hasnt shown up anywhere to let me do it.

Is there such a device in Device Manager? Is there any "unknown" device with a yellow warning?
FWIW, the bridge chip is an MA6116.
If you're a developer, you have access to the following data:

Of course, this doesn't help us at all.

It shows up under Device Mananger under USB controllers as a Mass Storage Device no yellow warning thingy. This is what comes up when i right click on it and select properties. Any Ideas on what to do next so that i can format and partition the drive?

Anyway, ISTM that the driver is installed, and Windows is detecting the bridge chip in the enclosure, but not the drive behind it. Perhaps the BIOS, too, is only seeing the enclosure, or does it actually identify the drive inside?
You could try hooking up the enclosure without the drive to see if it is detected any differently.
Try reducing the interface speed to 1.5Gbps by adding a jumper across pins 5&6.
You could also try disabling SSC (Spread Spectrum Clocking) by adding or removing the jumper from pins 1&2, depending on the model.
