Converting a mac based HD to work on a pc.

I apologize if this has been mentioned before but i didnt seem to find any answers on my own.

My father gave me his 500mb hd as he upgraded to a 1 tb drive.  The problem is that he was using it with an Mac and I have a pc.  When i hook the drive to my computer, i can't even find the drive in the menu.  I want to be able to clear the data on the hd and convert it to pc based so that i could use it.  Can anyone help me out??

Thanks in advance,

Joe

If you don't care about the data just reformat the drive for Windows

The drive will show on disk management but if you format will erase everything

try using Mac Drive  to view the drive

if you want to format after that make sure to copy all files to another drive
