Hi there.
I own iMac with Lion OSX + My Book 1TB external HDD. On My Book there's 1 and only partion with backups.backupdb folder created by Time Machine + some other personal files.
What I want is to make another partition on My Book to use only for backups (limited f.e. to 200 GB). I tryed to add another partition, but at the end of procedure I've got the following message:
'Couldn’t modify partition map because file system verification failed'.
When I tryed command 'verify disk' and 'repair disk' everything was O.K., with no errors detected. I tryed several times with Time machine turned OFF, closing all apps and restatring my Mac, but without success.
Could anybody help me, please???

Are you properly selecting the file system for each partition?
Please make sure you are partitioning the drive correctly
Try creating just one partition and then try creating the number of partition you wants to see what happens

I would like to do just as you described, but the drive is not empty!!! i've got backup.backupdb folder on it and I just want to kno the way to temporaly move it on a safe location (HDD or another external source) and back to My Book with new partition reserved for backup files. What is the best way to move or copy backup.backupdb to another location and than back???

NO GO! backups.backupdb is protected backup folder. You can not move or copy it by drag/drop or copy/paste!!! The only way I found is to (via Disk Utility) restore disk and all its content to another destination/location (Mac HDD f.e.). That woul be fine, but when I will transer it back to My Book I will have to do it again from my Machintosh HDD or what??? Restoring my Mac disk is the last thing I want to do, I mean there's realy no need to do that only for the reason of adding a new parition on my ext. HDD!!!
Any easyer method???

did you try to remove the protection from that folder?
If it's protected is because you created the backup that way since this is not standard.
Please go to apple support for more information on how to "unlock" that folder
