1 T External Hard Drive causes my desktop screen to go black and the computer to Freeze.

I tried to open my computer today and my screen went black after the XP logo finished. After several tries, I disconnected my desktop ext drive and the computer came on normally. My ext drive WD1000H1CS-00 is connected to my computer using the external sata cable connection. The drive is almost full, but I've not had any problems up to now.

What can I do?  I'm going to buy a 2 T drive, but how do I get the information from the old drive into the new drive if the old drive makes my computer freeze up?

Thanks,

Wes

You may try using the USB interface, and also another computer, in order to compare results.

Thanks for the fix. I used the USB connection and I can now access "My Book" and the backup information.

Again Thanks,

Wes
