Elements Drive Limiting Data Transfer

Hi! I'm a newbie so let me know if I post in the wrong place...

 

For some reason when I copy and paste over all my folders it says it is 126 gigs total and then starts the transfer. Yet, I have over 300 gigs that were selected. Does anyone know why it won't get it all? My external has plenty of room- over 1 TB is available. 

 

I am running  Windows Vista.

is your drive a WD elements desktop or a WD elements portable?

 

and also what usb type are you using is it 2.0 or 3.0?

 

and atfer the transfer is completed did you check if the copied files is only 126gb?

anyway you can zip the files first before transferring so it wouldn't be that big
