USB Hardrive 1TB not showing in my computer disk managment not initialize

Hi,

When i am connecting my 1TB USB harddisk to my laptop, I dont see any drive icon in my Computer. Under Disk management, Disk1 unknown, not initialized.

also i am getting error message "The request could not perform because of I/O device error"

Please help me out on this.
