Uninstall WD Smartware but still use password

I have numerous WD external drives (12 and counting) the more recent ones have installed WD Smartware.  It is something i will never use and appears to slow down the computer.  I would like to uninstall it, but i do want to keep password protection on the drives.  If i uninstall it, assuming that is possible) will i still have password protection or are passwords part of the Smartware program ?  Thanks for any help.

Yup, you can uninstall Smartware and still use password protection. When you connect the hard drive to the computer you will notice the unlock icon on the computer window, just click on it for the option to enter the password.
