Best Codec for Streaming Bitrate

Hi,

I use my Mybooklive (2TB) to store all of my movies on and want to be able to stream them whilst I am away from home.

What is the best format to store them in to get the bitrate that I would require to successfully stream?

At the moment I can stream whilst at home, but not once I am away from the home network... So am assuming it is the transfer rate.

My upload speeds at home are 10mbps + and my downloads whilst away are similar.

You don't need and specific file type or format

for higher bit rates it will require a faster connection but your internet speed is decent
