Can't access Backup or Retrieve tabs in WD Smartware after MyBookLive shut down for several days

I can't seem to access the Backup or Retrieve tabs in WD Smartware after MyBookLive was shut down for several days.

 

I have clicked on each of the HDD's listed and waited for the message 'categorizing your files...' to finish, but the Backup and Retrieve tabs remain greyed out.

 

MyBookLive is switched on now, and can be accessed through both the dashboard and Windows Explorer.  But I wait, and I wait, and I wait for the Backup and Retrieve tabs to become active, but nothing happens.

 

This software is in great need of updating- there is not enough feedback to operators what is happening.

Have you already try the basic troubleshooting

 

  • restarting the PC
  • powercycle the drive
  • check if upnp enable

this is a very poor answer, i've got the same problems, basic troubleshooting does not solve the situation.  why can't i access the backup and retrieve tabs??????????

After getting no sensible response from the WD Community, I did find a simple answer to this.  In WD Smartware on the Home tab there are 2 icons- a computer, and MyBookLive.  When you first get into WD Smartware, there is a little lock icon on the MyBookLive icon, which seems to be stopping you getting into the Backup and Restore tabs. But if you simply click on the MyBookLive icon, it unlocks this lock, and presto- you can then access the Backup and Restore tabs.
I don't know why WD has not explained this as it is so basic to operating WD Smartware, and first time users are left in the dark.
Hope this helps- it solved my problem after trying all the other suggestions and getting nowhere.
