My LIfe book **bleep**

My Life Book **bleep**, reasons why it **bleep**? 1) not possible to have one directory to use within windows or DOS, all has to be seperated and be copied many times in diferent shares if files are used in diferent catagories like movies or pictures. The concept of shares is a VERY VERY bad choosen one... 2) Not possible to make a backup from a whole drive without access each share 3) Not possible to see movies and pictures from a Playstaion 2 who has a media player working with SMB protocol This was working with the software when I got the drive, later updates did prevent access from my playstation 2, why? 4)Not possible to share files secure over the internet, where is the HTTPS or VPN tunnel to my drive? Why I need the stupid protocols like twonky and so on if all is present in a MAC and WINDOWS to share files and directories? Like to get answers and solutions to feel much happier about my drive. For now I will not recommend the WD live book to my friends...

Re: My LIfe book **bleep**

1)  I don't understand what you're talking about.   You can have as many or as few shares or directories as you want.   DOS?   Seriously?

2)  Shares have nothing to do with backups.   Backups are kept separate from shares.

3)  ???

4)  Sure it is.   That's what WD2Go is for.   Twonky has nothing to do with File Sharing.  Twonky is for DLNA Media Streaming, nothing else.

I think for anyone using Windows XP or earlier an encrypted connection is NOT established when using WD2GO to establish a connection using WebDAV.

Re: My LIfe book **bleep**

Shares have many things toto with back up,

To make from the whole drive in one go a backup is not possible, you need to acces share for share for this

Yes SMB protocol, it was working with the software when received the WD Life unit, then after a update not anymore.

On that moment  It was possible for me to use the playstation 2 with a program called simple media player to see my movies direct  from the drive.

To see my movies now I must copy them first from my WD drive to a other drive which can be accessed as share on the network. The Z: drive which is my WD drive can't be shared either on the network so that my playstaion can use it.
