Re: New Release - Firmware Version 2.10.12-129 for My Book Live (3/14/12)

many thanks for the advice, I have the 129 firmware but cant seem to find the one before, is there a link to it on wdc.com?

also I found a link where you can uodate the firmware from your PC using the UI after having downloaded the deb file first

http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5735

is this preferable?

thanks Barry

You can try but it will not work. I did not bookmark the old firmware link. Google and you will find it somewhere on the net. I Never tried the manual method . You can try and update here for the benefit of all.

Technaz, you said "you can try but it will not work" what were you referring to?

I bought My book live two weeks back and wanted to upgrade to the latest...I successfully upgraded but not without issues. First thing I found out was that the firmware was very old. If I upgrade directly to latest it would fail because of some issues with Network update. I followed the below method: 1) Upgrade first to 124 version first and not 129 one 2) Then upgrade to 129 version 3) It will stop at 10 % and hang ( wait for 1 hour) 4) Close the browser 5) Open the browser and click on link to upgrade next to the red exclamatory mark. (Ignore the previous upgrade firmware display box) 6) This time it will upgrade and install the new firmware.   Device is faster and better after this upgrade.

I'd replace "will stop" with "might stop". Maybe it was blind luck, but a number of us have actually had no problems with the latest update. In any event, the critical step is to enable ssh before doing anything else. Lots of threads here on how to do that.

Re: New Release - Firmware Version 2.10.12-129 for My Book Live (3/14/12)

Just to let others know I did as suggested, updated my drive to 021009-124 first and then when all running successfully updated it to 021012-129. I downloaded the deb files first from wdc.com onto my hard drive, then used the "update from file" button in the dashboard. All went OK and my drives seems to respond faster. There is no data on the drive. Now the fun begins, I hope...

Thanks

Barry

I meant the online update. Also tried the manual update. But when I did an incremental firmware upgrade from 124 to 129 it worked with a few tricks I mentioned before. The firmware update is not straight forward and some are lucky it works.

Congratulations. Looks like it works when there is no data and fresh formatted drive. I tried for almost three hours and then called MBL hotline. Answer was there is a problem escalate to US. Then I decided to experiment and do it myself.

This solution is the easyest way to solve the problem with slowed down performance on dashboard and apart:

Re: New Release - Firmware Version 2.10.12-129 for My Book Live (3/14/12)

As a wonderful idea as it is, one day Western Digital will release a firmware update that works just differently enough that one of our solutions could break it.  The hosts issue should be fixed on the next release.  I've noticed it's taking a while for W.D. to make a comprehensive firmware update available.  Rather they take their time geting it right than keep on sending out workarounds.  :smileywink:
