Vista x64 Driver Issues Windows Update DRIVER_STATE_POWER_FAILURE

This is really, really annoying. I just did a reformat of my laptop (mainly because of other issues but this same problem was the initializer).

Story:

MyBookLive on Network.

Go to Network window in Vista x64.

Run the icon for MyBookLive, Windows says that it needs drivers for it.

I click search for and install (recommended)

Windows Update proceeds to install the drivers. It doesn't time out or become unresponsive, but it doesn't seem to complete.

Try to restart computer, it takes forever to shut down and ends with BSOD DRIVER_STATE_POWER_FAILURE

Now I'm trying to uninstall MyBookLive under System Devices in Device Manager, that starts uninstalling, but doesn't seem to want to complete either.

Disabling the same option in Device Manager leads to Device Manager becoming unresponsive.

Really not impressed that a simple OS-based driver search+install can fail so horribly.

That's what I get when I close Device Manager after it stops responding when I try to disable the MyBookLive line.

Hmm.   Interesting.

The WDTV Live doesn't have or need "drivers."  It's a NAS.  ... any idea what this "driver" you were installing was expected to do?

No idea. All I know is that I'm very upset that I have to system restore and lose my 20 hour Dragon Age: Origins save. Not the end of the world, but if a product is trying to install drivers when it doesn't need to, and consequently screwing up my system/OS, then good luck ever getting my business or the business of any of my friends.

And now my System Restore isn't working either. Granted, I don't know if it would have worked before this ridiculous situation occurred, but it's just another nuisance that has popped up. If I have to do another OS install because of this, I should look into legal action. MyBookLive destroyed my data and caused a lot of upset for me, it's qutie frankly ridiculous.
