Livewire "Unidentified network"

Hello, my livewire setup stopped working a while ago. I have one end plugged into my router and the other to my computer on the other side of the house, but I'm not getting a connection. Under network connections it shows the local area connection status as "Unidentified network" and no packets have been received through it. I've tried turning off and resetting the livewire devices. I'm able to connect to the router using a usb wireless adapter. How can I fix this problem?

Try to connect the two livewires in the same room and check if you can get a connection there. You need to press the sync button on the two livewires within two minutes.

Isn't the sync button only if you want an encrypted connection? Anyway, pressing the sync button gets the power lights blinking but I don't get a connection even in adjacent sockets in the same room. The PLC-link light is only on for a few seconds after I plug a box into the wall.
