Time Machine Support on Lion (WD Sharespace )
Status:
Acknowledged
When trying to perform the initial backup, I am getting this error:
"The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features."
After doing some research, I learned that this means that the software of the drive does not support some features required for Time Machine. Apple document for Time Machine support can he found here (http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentat

well, I see this post, just loaded, but it doesn't give any insight as to how long this might take. We're talking backups here, folks...we need to know is it hours, days, weeks, months?

I just upgraded to Lion as well. I have a white my world NAS II. I can not access any of the drivers, including the WD_Backup user segment used by time machine.
The only thing you could do at the moment is to due the following:
connect to a server, under "Go", and type in smb:\\"your-wd-hd-name", then choose which volume to mount, for example Public.
this will mount any of your volumes and you can manually copy stuff to it.
The time machine support won't be around for a while.

Found this:
http://www.alexanderwilde.com/2011/04/os-x-lion-co
you can ignore the note at the end of the instructions, this works fine for me. All good now. Also another link in this forum,
http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-ShareSpace/Mac-OS-X
This should solve the problem until new firmware is available.
