Re: hard drive help

You might see if you can find an identical drive on eBay or something and swap the controller card...

Re: hard drive help

That or search out the posts by fzabkar. Sometimes you can bypass parts of the board. He has explained about a few times.

Re: hard drive help

Just something that I did that might help.  I bought 3 "refurbished" hard drives from an internet site, all of them WD, internal drives, 640 Gig.  One would not turn, another would not recognize the drive, and the third one worked.  They only had a 30 day warranty, so I basically got stuck with them.  In my adventurous mode, I removed the Circuit board from one, that would not recognize the drive, and switched it with the one that would not spin up.  It fixed it, and it seems to work fine. The bad one now will not spin, nor can it be read, but 2 out of 3 is better than 1 out of three.   By the way, they have some great rare earth magnets inside.  One more thing, podnutz had a 1 hour video on repairing a wd hard drive.. It is not worth doing for me, but it tells a lot about the drive, and the bearings, and how they do a repair and data recovery.

I think you have answered my question.    the cards "can be replaced".  i had been told 1card 1hard drive. Now if I can find the card from a wd2000js i think    problem solved  thanks a lot
