Elements 120 GB does not read (white constantly light on)

I just recently purchased a WD Elements HD 120GB earlier last month. I was able to put some data on it (not important) I recently just tried to acess the data on my computer however it does not read. I tried it on various computers and it still does not read.

Symptoms:

The white light is constantly on

The drive starts up  and there is activity

Windows 7 and apple does not recognize the drive.

If you have any suggestions what I can do please respond.

Re: Elements 120 GB does not read (white constantly light on)

I sort of have the same problem.. I bought mine just the other day from Walmart.com and used the Site-To-Store option. I got home and plugged it first into my laptop (Acer Aspire One running Windows XP Home), and it didn't recognize it, it powered on, but the computer didn't detect it. I then plugged it into my other laptop, Acer Aspire 5720z(Windows 7, originally Windows Vista), and did the same thing as it did with the other laptop. I wasn't even able to use it at all.

Can you check Disk Management and see if the drive shows up there?

Check the drive in Disk Management, if it shows up there, then you might try to reformat it.  This may take care of a bad drive image.  If it doesn't show up, then take it back.  It's been damaged somewhere in shipping and handling.

It doesn't show up there, bill_s. I've been through all the knowledge base stuff. I contact WD Customer Service already, they said it's a defective drive, so I need to send it back. Thanks for takin' the time to respond. :smileyhappy:
