I have recently dropped my WD Elements external hard drive (model numbrer WDBPCK5000ABK).
As a result, my computer hangs when the drive is inputted to any USB port on my computer (the back USB port of my computer has the same result). Running the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows usually results in a freeze for my computer, even on Safe Mode. (This occurs with other had drive testing sofware like Seagate SeaTools.) As a result, I have to use Task Manager and close the program.
I have plugged my external hard drive into other computers, and the same problem occurs—I cannot access/open any files from the hard drive at all, but it is recognized. Any type of interaction, however, even as simple as checking the properties of the external hard drive, results in my computer freezing.
What can I do to have full access to my drive, and open my files? I want to avoid a reformat because I did not backup my files on another location.
Thank you in advance!

Sorry but since you dropped the drive it is probably beyond do it yourself fixes. It's probably physically damaged. For data recovery you'll most likely need a professional.

Can I use software for this task? Is there such a program that would allow me to retrieve files from a basically nonexistent drive?
If that is not the case, how should I contact a WD professional, and how much would his/her services cost?
Thank you.
