HDD Not getting detected

Hi,

I have problem with my WD Elements SE 1TB External Hard disk (Model:
WDBABV0010BBK).
I have been using the disk since months (less than a year, though!),
but one day when I plugged it in to my laptop (Windows 7 Home Basic)
it is not getting detected.  Also, one floating alert is coming from
system tray saying "Device driver installation failed."  (This is not
the exact message. But more of something like this.)

I plugged the same disk to my friend's MacBook Pro (OS X Lion) and it
is also unable to detect the disk.  (all the days before this problem
came, on Mac OS this disk is being used smoothly.)

I have very huge data on it. I need it.  So, I do not want to format it.
And also, I failed to get device drivers for this disk from WD site.

Any help would be appreciated.  Please advice.

Jagadish.

Re: HDD Not getting detected

Try to connect the drive to a Windows computer, keep in mind that Windows and Mac use a different file system. After you connect the drive you can use either Recuva or Photorec to extract your data.
