It depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

Yeah, I just stunbled upon that IE9 compatibility note. The irony is I switched from FireFox back to IE for compatibility issues on other sites. Thanx.

Re: Repartitioning WDELEMENT 2 TB

OK, for some reason I was able to post the original message, but not post any replies. I saw the note about IE9 compatibility issues, and now that seems to be fixed.

So, as to what I am trying to do...

At present I have two equal partitions about 1 TB each. One is about 1/2 full, the other only has about 20GB on it.

I want to change the partitions to one about 1.5TB and the rest in the other partition. The amount of data in each partition is far less than the size of the new partitions.

That's about it.

Thanx

Re: Repartitioning WDELEMENT 2 TB

In Disk Management under Windows 7 or Vista, you should be able to Shrink the second partition down to the size you want, and then Extend the first partiition.

I'm assuming your 2TB drive is currently partitioned into 2 of about 930 GB each.

So, shrink the second partition by 570GB to create a 360GB partition, and you should then be able to extend the first partition to 1500 GB.

It should work like RoofingGuy says but make sure you have more than one copy of your data. One copy is not a backup. There is always the chance of an error so read a little about partitioning first. It's not something most of us do very often so a refresher is always a good idea first.

Thanx for the info. I had actually just found it prior to reading this post, but it is good to have it reinforced here.

Re: Repartitioning WDELEMENT 2 TB

Well, I was able to shrink the one partition OK, but when I tried to extend the other partition I got a message:

The operation is not supported by the object

I noticed the unallocated portion of the disk had a BLACK bar in DISK MANAGEMENT while the other two partitions have BLUE bars. Do I need to FORMAT the unallocated portion?

Thanx.
