Slow transfer speeds and buzzing noise on hard drive

Hello, I have the 640 gb elements portable hard drive and recently have been having some problems with it. I have had it for a couple months now and everything has worked fine with decent write and read speeds but now when I try to transfer files onto the drive it starts off at normal speeds and then slows down while making a weird constant buzzing noise. And when I try to cancel the file transfer, it freezes up and won't cancel for about 10 minutes and finally the window closes and the buzzing noise stops. I can still transfer the files from the hard drive very quickly. and this issue occurs with both small and large files. Is my hard drive damaged?? what can I do? Please help me out and thank you!

Re: Slow transfer speeds and buzzing noise on hard drive

Hi there, the best way to know if your drive is failing is to test it.

Try WD's DLG and more tools of your choice for a second opinion; I use HD Tune.
