WD ELEMENTS DESKTOP. DRIVE STOPS MOVING DATA

[ Edited ]

Hi to all: I just bought a brand new Dell laptop with Windows 7 and 4 or 5 USB ports.

This drive worked perfectly with my previous Dell Windows XP Laptop but now,

When transferring files from the laptop to the drive or viceversa, the drive stops functioning

despite the fact that the USB and power cords are connected and the light at the back is on.

Windows indicates that a number of files have been moved/copied but in reality no data is

going across. If I hit cancel in the window, my system crashes.

I have been told by Dell that the issue is that WD drives are not compatible with Windows 7

and I should return my computer for a refund if necessary.

I own 3 passports and 2 elements and need to access my data.

How can I resolve this issue please.

Kind regards.

Re: WD ELEMENTS DESKTOP. DRIVE STOPS MOVING DATA

Have you got another PC to test it on and see if the problem goes away? It's probably some of the Dell bloatware they shovel into all their products.  My sister got a New Dell laptop last year and I removed a bunch of useles junk for her. I've got 3 WD drives within the last year and they all work on Windows 7.
