WD Elements 3TB interfered my Mumble 1.2.3a, It's a kind of magic ?

[ Edited ]

Hello dear WD users,

I'm a new guy to the forums, registered because I have an issue with my WD Elements 3TB that I've just pluged into my PC 1h ago.

So, I've pluged my WD E3TB and everything was fine, besides the annoying FAT32 witen on the drive.

I've then decided to quick format it into NTFS, while it was formating I wanted to go chat with some buddys.

Turned on Mumble 1.2.3a and suddenly the formatation stopped and my WD 3TB started turning on and off the whole time.

I was confused and didn't know other option than restarting my PC ( since I was getting bombarded by windows popups to format the disk ).

After the restart I've tried the Disk Manager delete -> format to NTFS and the drive was there, could transfer stuff, all cool.... until I've turned on Mumble ... and the drive got crazy on me again ! Turning on and off all time !

I'm at the bottom of my knowledge, google wasn't any help and besides ... how the heck can a voice chat program so small like Mumble interfere with the function of my WD E3TB ????

Also I've tried Skype and TeamSpeak, no problems, the drive stayed stable and accessible all time.

PS: I'm currently doing a not quick format with Disk Manager.

EDIT :

Ok so I've decided to test stuff out. Turned skype on while I was formating my drive and called a friend.

The format stopped suddenly, I've re-deleted the partition and re-formated to NTFS in a quick format.

Then as I was talking I've entered mumble again, the Drive didn't crash this time !!

I've turned Skype off and turned mumble on and the drive disapeared and reapeared again ...

Just what the heck >_<  ?

Also while windows is turning on either my Keyboard & Gamepad get detected by Windows, I have to unplug my WD E3TB so that the Keyboard and gamepad can be detected.

This is turning weird ... is my drive defect ? Or is there something between Skype, Mumble, Sound Drivers and my external Hdd ?

EDIT 2 :

I was on Skype, turned Mumble on, turned Skype off and now I can stay on Mumble without the Hdd doing funny stuff again.

Then I turned mumble off, turned it on again and there goes the HDD doing hello/bye bye again.

Turned Skype on, Mumble on but tthe Hello/Bye continued, called a friend on skype talked to him and suddenly the HDD stopped turning on and off.

I tried all of this with the Drive in NTFS and exFAT, I can't test it in FAT32 since win7 doesn't seem to be able to format it in that way ( or I don't know how it can )

So this is turning into something strange ...

I decided to write zeros on the HDD using DLG and it's not listed on the Physical Drive list, it's only on the Logical Drive list where I can't select it for formatation or even for a simple scan.

Please, is there a kind soul that could help me out with this ?

Try plugging it into a USB 2.0 poer and format it there. USB 3.0 is buggy as far as I'm concerned. I don't think it was well tested by hardware and software makers given all the problems people have with it.

I don't think I have any USB3 ports.

But I will try formating it in a different port.

Edit :

Well I switched USB ports for the External Drive, formated it using WD's quick format tool and problem seems to be somewhat solved.

I can now turn un mumble without the Drive going on/off all time but I do sometimes get the bug where on Win7 startup my mouse, keyboard and gamepad don't load until I unplug the drive.

But it's better than before. I might try other USB ports see what hapens.

Just hope that the Drive doesn't die on my now in some time like all the customer comments I've read ...

Oh we'll see.

I'll accept Joes reply as my solution, and I thank you alot Joe for your ( you're the only one who answered anyway ) answer.
