WD Restore from XP to Win 7 issue

Hi,

I backed up my entire pc on my WD HD using the smartware software thinking it was going to be easier than just dragging and dropping.  I have since learned the error in my ways.  I understand there is a difference between the two OS's and how they store data, however, I'm having a heck of a time finding the information on the HD to even manually restore it to my desktop.  What have other users done to restore the data to a newer OS?  I know I can't be the only one who ran in to this.  I appreciate the assistance!

Must users just drag and drop the files

What software did you use to backup?

You can use the same software to restore

If you used backup software it may be necessary to use it to copy data back.
