I know I used to be able to run this and didn't receive these error messages.

I haven't had any real noticeable issues w/ the drive, it just is in a laptop that gets frequent

powering on/off, standby/wake etc., so I wanted to check it.

Another SMART utility I ran gave a warning on the drive...

I haven't run CHKDSK yet.  I don't see a reason to (possibly corrupt data) if something is already

wrong w/ the drive, that the manufacturers diag software can't figure out.

Anybody else had this problem, or better a resolution?

Better off RMA'ing the drive?

Thanks!

Re: 11 Cable Test Write Sector Error

[ Edited ]

I have the same problem. My hard drive is a MyBook Premium 500GB, and I connect it via USB. Lately I've had problems turning it off and making it appear in 'My computer'. And then a couple of days ago, I couldn't copy/read some files. It reminded me of last time I had a hard drive that crashed. I also tried formatting it, but got an error message. I ran Life guard v1.17 and I got this error.

I opened up the cabinet, took out the drive and then placed it in my computer, connecting it via SATA and ran the test again. This thest didnt show any errors. I formatted the drive and copied 300gb of data to it and it appeared to be fine so I put it back in the cabinet and connected it via usb. The drive seems fine for now, but i get the same error message. Tried all of my USB ports without luck.

I still haven't figured out if it's the disk or just the usb connection which is failing, and any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: After trying to test my other harddrives it turns out I get the same error on all of them, even the newest one which I got 4 days ago.

Re: 11 Cable Test Write Sector Error

The problem is with Data Lifeguard for Windows version 1.17. I installed 1.13 and the problem stops. I have duplicated this problem on a XP Machine and Vista x64 machine. It also happens on both external and internal drives. I tested WD My Book Elite 1TB external, WD Elements 500 GB external, and WD Black 1TB internal In addition, it even happens when I try to test my empty media card reader in my system. WD needs to fix Data Life Guard 1.17. Find version 1.13 and all your problems will stop. You can download 1.13 from the WD server at this link:

Check the main INTERNAL DRIVE froum for the full thread about this.

Re: 11 Cable Test Write Sector Error

Thanks. I tried running the program on my laptop and the drive passed the test. But with chkdsk I got an error. It's not supposed to be easy...

Re: 11 Cable Test Write Sector Error

When I run Zero drive util the test runs OK. But if I make a partition and format it, the test fails

Re: 11 Cable Test Write Sector Error

[ Edited ]

Two weeks ago, I downed load WD diagnostic 1.17 to check on my WD drive but it showed same error.  Lucky I found this thread and downed load 1.13 and ran fine.

Today I just got external WD Element 1.5TB and run with 1.13 but I got same error problem :11 cable test error",   Tried on 1.17, the same result.

I can see it and the internal 250 GB on my laptop.  Run internal is fine but not this.

Model WDBAAU0015HBK-NESN

Any advices, guys.
