HDD MODEL NUMBERING MEANING

INTERNAL DRIVES ALL HAVE MODEL NUMBERS Eg. WD1600BEVT.

Can any member please tell me what the last four characters  refer to (in this case BEVT).

Can I use a WD600BEVS instead??

As there are so many how do you work out which is compatable to what or are they all unique.

Is there a site that explains all these model numbers.
