WD2500BEVT spin down

Hi,

I have an asus eee laptop with a WD2500BEVT harddisk in it. I run Linux on it.

My mother also has an eee and she runs the default windows 7 installation on it.

Now both systems have the problem that after oa couple of no disk-i/o (5-10 seconds), the harddisk spins down. This is annoying as it'll need to spin-up quickly anyway and spin-up takes relatively long.

On the windows 7 laptop, I disabled all power management functionality: did not help, it keeps spinning down.

On linux same thing altough with "hdparm -B 255 /dev/sda" I can disable it until the next reboot.

Did a lot of googling but could not find a solution.

Anyone here who has a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hello mate,

Nope, unfortunately you can't disable the spin down feature.

You should try it.

However, be warned that Western Digital behaves totally autistic regarding this power-managing-annoyance issue.
