WD5000 Green Caviar 500GB SMART error [ Edited ]

Hi,

First message on WDC forum.

I recently have a serious problem with my Green Caviar. First I noticed a big slowdown when reading/writing. Secondly and randomly, my Green Caviar wasn't detected by Windows XP (but detected in BIOS). Third, often, at each reboot or power ON, Windows check HDD integrity (scandisk) on my Green Caviar only. Finally, I used the WDC tool Data Life Guard Diagnostic and the Quick Test give a SMART error as shown on the following screenshot :

I fear to start extended test and to loose more data.

HD Tune Pro also detected bad sectors on that HDD.

Is my HDD dead ? If so, I'm waiting a "warranty update" on this HDD, still in process, before to RMA it.

Please, tell me what to do next.

A SMART error cannot be fixed, you should have the drive replaced.
