internal drive installed using an external case and usb

I just attached a Western Digital SATA hard drive through an external case to a usb connection. The drive is recognized by the device manager but not through computer management disk administration. I have used data lifeguard diagnostics from western digital which also recognizes the disk and indicates that it is ok when tested. I am trying to use this disk with a Dell GX 520 and home xp os but the system refuses to assign a drive letter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have read and tried many ideas suggested on other similar posts but have run out of ideas. Thank you for your help and consideration.

Re: internal drive installed using an external case and usb

Hi dude, what's the capacity of the drive? And does it work well when used normally inside the computer? It could be not not compatible with the case...

Also, what is the model of this drive? Does need to use the WD Alignment tool?
