scorpio black - need help, please! [ Edited ]

hi, i ordered the retail package of the Western Digital Scorpio Black 320 GB Sata 3.0 Gb-s 16 MB Cache 2.5-Inch Internal from amazon but this came without software or instructions. i decided to keep it because amazon had none in stock for replacement. please, realize, i'm completely in the dark as to hds and partioning. i switched out the drive this am - old drive was bad, nothing to be salvaged - and atm my original installation cd is formatting the wd hd. i opted for one partition since i didn't know what else to do. i also checked with wd tech support and was told this drive has advanced formatting and my xp installation might not take. formatting is at 83% - can somebody please tell me what to expect???? please!

this drive is going into a dell latitude d820 - os xp pro

windows seems to be installing - formatting did complete - do you think i'll be ok?

what is the purpose of the advanced formatting download? i have no idea what a bridge between pin 6 and 7 means ...

If you install Windows XP on the hard drive, just use the WD align tool and it should be OK, if you don't run the align tool the hard drive will perform slowly.

the installation of xp pro seems to have gone well and formatting the new drive with just one single partition went through without a hitch.

well, things are not going well! i registered the drive and my warranty shows up as 3yrs instead of 5. and to put the icing on the cake i'm told this is a restricted download - not available to me!

now what??????

Mmmm to update the warranty just contact tech support and they can help you with that, to download the WD align you need to be logged in your WD account.
