Is there a way to store files on a NAS (with RAID 1) to be accessed and saved by both Mac and Win platforms? Ideally, both can access and then save to the same file rather than save again to their native OS's.

Dude that's the way they work...
The File System ext4 is Linux based and works with both Mac and Windows.
