newbie user - software question.

hi everyone!     brought my book world edition 1TB today and plugged it in and it all lights up BUT after reading reviews about it I have NOT yet installed the WD cd for it as people say its crap and a waste of rescourses on the PC.

 

I found its ipaddress and set it up that way but i want some form of backup software, one that backs up selected files and updates them and if poss a copy of the PC HDD incase it goes t1ts up - any suggestions please before i install WDbackup.

 

also is there any other features i am missing out on be not installing the CD?
