password and user name

I recently lost my hard drive on my lap top and had to replace it which i have done but now i have forgotten my password and user name on my wd external hard drive and can not access any of my info any help would be greatly appreciated

its a my book essential 2tb hard drive please help

does the external have an OS on it or is it just files?

hold down the reset button (the one that needs a paperclip) for 5 seconds.  it will reset it back to default settings.  all of your data and shares will still be there though.  if you have a static ip you'll have to redo that as well.

 

once it reboots use the admin username and password (admin / admin)
