Select precise files

At the very least, we should be able to select precisely which files we want to recoved (and backup). Of course a FULL recovery should still be available. What is so difficult in allowing the selection and recovery of a precise file or folder? What is the "mystique" concerning USB and "external" hard drives? All I want is an external drive thast does what an internal drive does, but with the ability to move it from PC to PC.

I had a backup program using DVD's and it allowed me to select an entire directory/subdirectory or individual files. I don't understand why this option is not available on my My Book. I recently had to reformat my HD and lost all the flies that weren't the correct extension allowed for backup on My Book. Surely this should be a option on the software.
