New Idea

I think setting a default share is a great idea... for some people.  Can you make it a button on the Sync Folders page... But prohibit the program from doing it unless it is desired by the end user?

I think this behavior needs to be changed.  My observation:

Logged in as USER1 on WDMyCloudDL4100

WD FORCES a share "My Cloud" to "WD Sync" (WD Sync is located under USER1 Home Share)

Then Remove Device

Then when adding the device, you are by DEFAULT signed in as USER1 and see the WDMyCloudDL4100 available

But I am need to be USER2.

So I "Sign Out" and then enter the credentials for USER2.

I see the WDMyCloudDL4100 device.

At this point... the default "My Cloud" share is based on USER1.  And since WD prohibits us from Changing this default share... I fear that it may result in some unwanted outcomes!

3 Users:

  • Alex- Marketing
  • Billy - Marketing
  • Chris - Accounting

Business Need:

  • Create a (synced) share to be used by all members in Marketing.

  • Each user has a user setup in the My Cloud Device (e.g. DL4100)
  • Each user has a login on
  • Each user has their own personal share
  • Each user is using WDSync to keep their files updated with their home or with their tablet
  • For this example, I have not set up groups in the My Cloud Device (e.g. DL4100)

To accomplish this (I Think!):

  1. Log into local WD Cloud device (e.g. DL4100) and create a new share, for this purpose, I shall name it "Marketing" for kicks.
  2. Modify the Marketing share to allow Alex and Billy Read / Write access.
  3. Go to Alex's machine and bring up WDSync Settings.
  4. Create a folder called "All Share Marketing" on lex's machine.
  5. Drag this folder into the Sync folders screen of WD Sync.
  6. Choose "Marketing" from the list of shares.
  7. Done.

The Issue:

The Share "Marketing" does not appear to be available during Step 6.

Am I doing something wrong, or has this just not yet been programmed in?

Thanks for any feedback!

WDSync limitations

Status: Acknowledged
by Wednesday

I have test the new WDSync Software and...error for the first sync : "impossible to sync : filename ended by a space character" (translate is mine).

Then others errors because of a "/" in the name of another file.

Why this limitation ??? And I can't correct the file, I don't know which file is it in the 40 000 files I have.

And why stopping the whole sync because of one error ?

Could you correct the software to be able to copy all files ? This software is useless for me at this time.

Suggest to either integrate this forum or provide another support/feature suggestion channels via the mobile In-App function.

A good example of such is the Micorosft Outlook app, which provides such functionality for contact support, suggest a feature. Instead of someone giving the WD mobile apps with a 1 star compliant and hoping the support person to get back to them (which never happens anyway based on my observation)

First up - am not a spammer Smiley Happy

Am from SuperSync and this post comes in as a request from a bunch of our users who use WD NAS.

SuperSync is an iTunes music management software and it simplifies iTunes music management across home/office networks - helping users to sync /manage libraries between multiple computers as well as their NAS systems.

Currently, SuperSync integrates with Synology, QNAP and a couple of other NAS systems in the market.

However, recently, there has been an inflow of requests from current SuperSync users to have it integrated with WD NAS.

Hence wanted to reach out to the WD team and community here to seek help regarding the same. We are ready to provide support to the integration and testing. More info on SS can be found from here:

Please do let me know if any further information is required. It would be a pleasure to be associated and integrated with WD NAS.

it would be cool if the NAS EX4 had an app that would auto-download uploaded pics from selected FaceBook friend's photos and albums..

I have lots of family members who post pictures to their profiles and create family albums of their events.  It would be great if I can capture all of those pictures so that we can have a central repository family eventful pictures.

Why can't I integrate My Cloud with Office 2013, as I can with DropBox?
Saving word docs, excel. and powerpoint on my local drive and dragging them to My Cloud seems counter-productive.
I would like to have the option of saving them directly to My Cloud without the save to my local drive.

Folder selection at Mobile App

Hi. Am new here. I would even have an idea. It would be good if you could choose in the Mobile App folder that you want to save.

Since Windows 10 came out with full Windows Universal app support, it would be good to see all WD apps on Windows platform.

With Universal App, WD can developp one single app that will work on regular Windows PC with Windows 10, Windows Mobile 10, Windows Tablets running Windows 10, Xbox, HoloLens, IoT... Far more potential than with any other OS.

Closing WD My Cloud windows or android app does not logoff the access. This is a very important must-have security feature.

Backup snapshots on SmartDrive.

I have installed WD SmartWare 2.4.11 on my computer and using My Passport Ultra as external target backup drive and I'd like to take a snapshot of the actual data on my computer from time to time. I am not interested in keeping a copy of the files I delete/move on the source computer.

With the actual v. 2.4.11 I have performed the first backup.

In a natural course of operations, I have created&deleted a few files, moved files and folders elsewhere, etc. and my aim is, if a fault happens on my computer's hard disk, to be able to restore the files as they were before the fault.

Unfortunately what I have noticed is that, if I select "retrieve all files" tab on smartware, all the deleted and moved files are being copied as well.

If I select "retrieve some files", I can see the deleted files/folders crossed-out or greyed out. This way I could select what files to retrieve (ie all the ones *not* greyed or crossed out) in order to restore the . But this is an endless process, as I should go through all the folders.

I understand there is no way to do that, so I am suggesting a new feature to SmartDrive.

Finder Integration like Dropbox

Dropbox and File Transporter integrate right into Finder within OS X and it makes creating links, adding folders and orginisation much easier.

I use the iOS My Cloud app (version 4.1.3) to browse photos on my WD My Cloud device.

The "View by Date" option is a great alternative to trying to navigate the folder structure on my device but I've found that "View by Date" is using the photo's timestamp which in many cases is inaccurate for various reasons such as file transfer software that does not preserve the orignal file timestamp when uploading from my computer or mobile device.

Instead, it should be using the EXIF field "DateTimeOriginal" which was inserted by the camera at the time of image capture. In the case where that field isn't available then fallback to the file's timestamp.

Nice simple one - can the Dropbox app be updated so that we can choose where the apps local mirror folder is located?

At the moment it seems to be fixed in the public folder (presumably as that will always exist), which works but of course it does mean that anyone who has local network access can see all the files/folders in your Dropbox account that you've got mirrored there.  I'm guessing that not many people actually want that, although they may not realise it's what is currently the case.

For me it would be better if by default it ends up with its own share, which could then be made either public or private with controlled access as desired.
