Well, sadly, as the file is called ElementsPlayGen2.v1.01.02.zip, I reckon it's for the Gen 2.

Hi All, Does any one know how to make WD Elements play Gen1 play an MKV movie with DTS audio. Mine will only play the video will but there is no audio coming out both from the RCA outputs and HDMI outputs.

Is this normal for Gen1.? Is there a Firmware that can make this unit play all MKV format movie with out problems.?

Yes, that's normal for the Gen1, because the Gen1 doesn't support DTS.

Can an installation of an additional Codec to the system make this device support MKV with DTS? Does WD provide this information ( Installation of additional Codec. )?

Now I am stucked with an expensive storage device, since most of my movies are in MKV DTS.

I am now considering another brand for this purpose.

Then why did you buy it?   The documentation says that it doesn't support DTS... 

Whatever you decide to replace it with, make sure you do adequate research first so you don't get stuck again.
