Backup wirelessly to my book essential

I have a my book networked on a desktop running windows 7. The drive is shared and seen by two laptops.  Can I  wirelessly backup the two laptops to this drive? I have loaded the smartware onto the laptop, the drive icon is grayed out. The tabs for the Smartware, HOME and SETTINGS are high lighted, the BACKUP and RETRIEVE are non functional.

Am I able to backup wirelessly or must I direct connect to the hard drive?

If you have a normal USB my book essential it wont be recognized, unless you connect it directly to the computer.
