Have my photos vanished for good? Passport drive problem

Hello WD Forum,

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone could help me. I have a problem affecting a particular folder (and it's sub-folders) on my drive. This folder happens to contain some of my most treasured photos.

When I try to open the folder it tells me that I 'need to format the disk in drive E: before I can use it'.I of course click cancel and then get the message telling me that my folder is not accessible, with a sub-message 'Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I have run the utility that takes several hours to run which tells me that there are bad sectors. What is my next step (if any are available)? Thank you for any advice.

To recover your photos you may try using a data recovery software, like Recuva or TestDisk.
