Unable to access

I just purchased an external hard drive my passport, I can see the unit in my pc but when I click on it it says: unable to access E:\ the file or directory is damaged or is ilegible.

Drive is corrupted

 

If the files are elsewhere reformat the drive

 

if there's no backup you will need a recovery software
