All drive light blink every second or so

[ Edited ]

I got my DX4000 when they first shipped.  As long as I have it, the drive lights on the front have blinked about every second or so.

I have always presumed this was normal/ok, but figured I would ask.

It concerns me that the drives are essentially always being accessed and never go into any kind of power saving mode to extend life/save power.

Oh, and the darn bblue light light up the entire room in the evening!

Thanks,

David

Re: All drive light blink every second or so

Completely normal. Server 2008 R2 is rather busy with background maintenance I/O.

Most RAID arrays are never going to be able to spin down any of the drives due to de-sync and hanging issues. With modern drives and bearings you shouldn't see any functional lifetime difference anyway.
