Re: WHEN IS WDFME.exe GOING TO GET FIXED?????

[ Edited ]

At last!

I've been waiting for a long time for this memory hog issue to be fixed.

Having installed Version 1.6.0 ... now all seems to be working perfectly.

Spoke too soon.

After logging out as one user and logging in as another user, the WDBackUpManager started running at 50% of CPU and continued to do so ... and continued to do so...and continued to do so...even after all files were backed up and even after stopping the backup.

Re: WHEN IS WDFME.exe GOING TO GET FIXED?????

has this been fixed yet as i am back to running 1.5.4.5 as 1.6 is horrendous on my xp system but wdfme is still using 70-80% when nothing is happening and the drive is unplugged, this goes back for months if not years when you search google and all you find is various forum threads which have been closed because of a new update

i tried contacting email support and they can't even get that right as it waits for your to write out your problem submit it and then says error and logs you out

all i can say is great hardware, software by monkeys in my opinion

Re: WHEN IS WDFME.exe GOING TO GET FIXED?????

Thanks to everyone who have contributed to these posts about the WDFME.exe problem. I note that most of the recent posts are back in 2011 but I just started having the problems with WDFME.exe about 2 weeks ago and it has locked up my computer ever since to the point where I can't use it; extremely frustrating and WD need to get their act together NOW or I'm dumping their products & software! There shouldn't be ANY conflicts with software updates that throw their backup software into a spin! It has worked faultlessly for many months but now I'm really angry about the angst & frustration their product has caused me & my family. WD should be able to set things up so that all required software updates are kept in sync! I managed to find out it was the WDFME.exe process that was chewing up all my available RAM & used the Resource Monitor option in Task Manager to shut it down. I was blaming AVG for their new Secure Search functionality in Outlook Explorer but this wasn't at fault. I will try the un-install option and hopefully all will be fixed! Please keep making posts about issues & sharing how to fix them! :smileyhappy:

Re: WHEN IS WDFME.exe GOING TO GET FIXED?????

I just joined this thread after experiencing much the same problem with WDFME.exe ... it's easy enough to kill the process but I agree that we shouldn't have to be doing this ... is there anybody from WD working on this?  How can we find out?

Re: WHEN IS WDFME.exe GOING TO GET FIXED?????

Thanks for the link ... I'll give that a try ... I have this running on a couple of machnes ... one was taking 365MB of RAM; the other only 62MB ... I really had only noticed the slow down and today was the first time I tried to check what was going on and follow up .. I'm glad I found this thread ...

Re: WHEN IS WDFME.exe GOING TO GET FIXED?????

I have been trying to trouble shoot this for awhile but I was not looking at processes for ALL USERS as I am the only user on this laptop.  It turns out it was not installed under my user.

I did the update of the firmware and software now and no longer see wdfme.exe in processes or services.  Was it replaced by something else?  i did not do an uninstall.  It seem like all processes are now smaller but I haven't run it long enough to tell.  I was able to run a backup but I am not sure if autobackup is going to work without WDFME.exe

In services I have enabled WDBACKUP, WDDrive Manager and WDRules.  Is this all I need?  Thanks,

Re: WHEN IS WDFME.exe GOING TO GET FIXED?????

When I went to the WD download page for a solution I got directed to a product called "Driver Manager" that cost me US$40 to purchase. It helped fix some out of date driver issues but it is extremely frustrating software to use & it's a tedious process to download & install driver updates for some devices after multiple uninstall & reboots. Even after this has been done the product still doesn't recognise some of the driver update! This included the WD driver update! In the end I found the WD Udate Manager & successfully installed the WD Quick View 1.6.2 version via the same update link noted below by Alucardx23. This updated version works fine & I have not had any RAM overload problems since upgrading!

Re: WHEN IS WDFME.exe GOING TO GET FIXED?????

Thanks for posting ... I haven't done anything with this yet beyond simply killing the process to avoid the RAM problem ... I'll look at getting the update and see if it works for me as well ...

Re: WHEN IS WDFME.exe GOING TO GET FIXED?????

I've spent most of my day wrecking my brains as to why my machine is slow, the program wasn't showing up in Task Manager the computer was reporting 99% memory useage and my Core i7 was acting like a 386.

Sort it or I also will vote with my feet!!

I've used and trusted WD for years
