Re: We're getting pissed off. WDTV MP4/MKV/AAC audio sync issues.

[ Edited ]

Bill_S / Guy_K,

What is going on please?

We would like an update on your progress in solving these very bad and often terrible audio sync issues on the WD TV HD whilst playing MP4-MKV/AAC files.

My NEW WDTV box has been sat next to my TV for 1 MONTH now without me or my family being able to use it.

I repeat: my 300+ mp4 movies are UNVIEWABLE on my NEW WD TV HD because of very serious audio/video sync issues. These issues do not exist on other FREE media players.

If you cannot get a fix out soon please re-release the previous WD TV HD firmware so that those of us who are experiencing chronic audio-video sync issues on the WDTV HD can at least use it!

Eagerly, for one month now, awaiting a positive response from you.

Re: We're getting pissed off. WDTV MP4/MKV/AAC audio sync issues.

Guys am from India, I payed my friend to get it from Chicago as he was coming back.. I got the player home.. Believe me I read only the good reviews till I saw this community and this particular thread.

Connected the player. played 1080p .mkv file played fine.

Played a divx file - played fine.

played an ISO file,it started good. but When I fast forwarded it, the screen went blank and the timer is stuck. switched the player off and turned it on. tried to play the same file again, I only see blank screen. its not even playing for few seconds as it did before.

and I tried a .vob file. I see no picture. its a original music video of THE CORRS...

I`LL  post more. later.

My box is sitting in the box that it came in.

I fixed my audio sync problem by buying an Aseus O!Play.  It plays our 300+ MP4/MKV files just fine, using the same WD My Book external HDD.

Re: We're getting pissed off. WDTV MP4/MKV/AAC audio sync issues.

this is my 2nd post.

----

after resetting to factory settings, it started playing .VOB and .ISO without any problems...

one improvement which should be made in the firmware including Audio sync issues of MP4 & AAC is the fast forwarding option... " we cannot jump from 10 mins to 45 min in a movie directly. I think this should be minimum requirement when we are watching movies. we didn buy it watch funny video clips.

This isn't the right thread for your question and forum junkies get their panties in a wad when motals post in the wrong thread. So here is a quick fix for you. Press the FF, while it is forward fasting press the next buton and it should jump forward 10 minutes. Hopefully the forum natzis will have learned something new and not tear us a new one.

Re: We're getting pissed off. WDTV MP4/MKV/AAC audio sync issues.

My question is...... I just bought the Gen 2, should I return it? I have a Gen 1 and the last firmware (1.03) update was a disaster, to the point that I stopped using the devise (would not play my avi files any more) . I did find a tread on how to revert back to a previous firmware  (1.02.07), and downgraded this past weekend. I have not tried it yet but it worked before the update so it should work after reverting it back. So again, my questions are:

With it still sitting, wrapped, in the Amazon box, should I keep or return my Gen 2 ( paid 84.99)?

Should I update the firmware? Is the sync problem only on the latest firmware (1.01.77) or is it on the previous (1.01.75) and original factory installed firmware?

Lastly

Is the sync problem only with the Mp4 files with AAC ( most of my files are mkv and avi)?

Re: We're getting pissed off. WDTV MP4/MKV/AAC audio sync issues.

There's a free online software called MKV Merge, which you can use to change the container or something (I don't understand much about codecs and such) so that the .mp4 file is now an mkv file.  Then they play fine on the WDTV v2.

Sucks that you have to go through the trouble given the box says the player is supposed to play those mp4s, but really it doesn't take much time to do the converting (maybe a minute or two?) and then it plays fine.

I'm keeping mine. For the price, it does what it does well. Full 1080p with a bunch of file types. That said, WD's response to the firmware problems is thoughly disappointing and worthy of condemnation.

mkv and most avi (all that I've played) seems to work fine.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I'm going to keep it. I do agree that that WD's lack of communication is VERY poor form. If the majority of the people are like me, they would be nuch happier with an answer that they didn't like than to be kept in the dark. It's a firmware update not an apple product launch. Just give us a two sentence status report every week or so. As user with a tech problem we're like needy girlfriends, we just need to be reminded that your thinking of us.

Unfortunately, there's not much to report.  It appears that they are working on a firmware update, but when and what fixes I don't know.
