Re: New Release - Firmware Version 1.05.04_V for the WD TV Live (5/12/11)

[ Edited ]

Argh!! :smileymad:

I hate this box!

I have reverted back to 1.04.22 but the box still locks up when playing mkv or wmv files. It seems to happen with all mkv files. It never did this before when I used 1.04.22. What is going on?

Any suggestions?

Re: New Release - Firmware Version 1.05.04_V for the WD TV Live (5/12/11)

So i start playing back Buzz out loud from the Cnet source, and after oh 20-30 minutes the screen suddenly goes black. And remains black. And then the TV tells me "No Video" - oh very good guys, what a novel feature to suddenly drop the HDMI connection.

WDTV Live needs: Better in-file navigation. Arrow keys to skip back and forth 10/30 secs in AVIs/MKVs/Mp4s/Mp3s.

I have this problem too (not just audio though... subtitles too) and after pressing to change (audio or subtitles) the text only updates once, on the second and subsquent clicks the text remains the same (but the change does get made though).

I gotta say that this player has more or less filled my needs for media playback (yes there have been freezes, dificulty in accessing network shares, and few other minor issues, mostly fixed over time). Nevertheless I wonder how in the world something this glaring is able to creep into an update?? Do people at WD even test the firmware before releasing? (maybe it would be better to bring back betas...)

I work in software development and have coleagues of mine that develop firmware for IPTV boxes and these kind of bugs (like pink screens, or bad menu placements) should never EVER get to production. One or two could slip through to QA but to PROD? sorry but there is no excuse (especially when it keeps happening again and again).Very sloppy software engineering.

Happy with the update; 2TB limit eventually fixed, jumping text and brightness change corrected.

All files play well as they did with all updates before.

Only thing I'd wish for now (apart from the minor left aligned menu text) would be USB hub support!

Urging for this way too long now - can't be THAT complicated??

Did you try the suggested error-fixing resets?  Because I just tried again, and my .iso files still play.

Thanks!... I restored factory defaults and pulled out the power lead for a few minutes because initially it didn't work, this seems to have fixed my .iso issue. So just the menu issue which I'm sure they can easily fix in the next update.

Cheers

Have you activated Match Framerate to ON?

What Unit Model Number do you have?

Mine behavs the same now with all Videos if i choose MFR ON / HDMI Auto Modes and power off and on again.

It works candy with 1.04.22 but in 1.05.04 the WD Locks with a stuck Counter playing Video here.

I see you already rolled back.

Hope you remember if MFR was on in your 1.05.04 before  :smileywink:

Do a HW-Reset on the Side of the WDTV and try again with 1.04.22.

Having same problem.  Very surprised something this obvious made it to release.

Same behavior when trying to adjust sound track for a movie.

Well restoring factory defaults fixed my .iso issue but now .mkv files don't work. They worked before I restored factory defaults so I'm sure it must be some simple setting I need to change... the football is on at the moment so can't mess around with the player. I noticed that the HDMI settings had changed from auto to 720p, when I select auto it gives me some other options which I don't remember setting up the first time.

What are the best HDMI(Auto) settings?

Thanks for your advise. I got it working now.

I did a soft reset and I can play mkv and wmv files again :smileyhappy:

I then upgraded to 1.05.04 and it seems that I can still play all media files. The top menu is still left aligned like others have reported, but that seems to be the only problem for now.

Oh please test how it behaves if you power off and on again now having MFR ON before unpowering :smileyhappy:

Thx
