I have looked up how to update firmware (Currently running 1.01.70!) and find problems as follows:
First suggestion: connect your WD TV Live to an Internet connection and the WD TV Live will automatically check and notify you a new firmware is available ... is impossible since there is NO NETWORK ACCESS. No plug/socket/cat 5 etc or wireless connection option.
Second instruction states: "..Download the latest firmware update compressed file...Connect the USB drive to the WD TV Live Media Player's USB port...
- select the Settings bar.
- Select the firmware upgrade icon, and then press ENTER.
The problem with the latter is that there is NO "Firmware Upgrade" selection.
Is there a special keystroke or some D&D type hidden switch that the documentation fails to mention.
Or is this player simply dead in the water. It was purchased about a year ago.

Otherwise, I can find no other identifiers on the kit or in the "About" statement.
My apology if this is a repeat...couldn't find a previous answer.

I know for sure I do have the Live HD Plus. Like the original poster - I find that I need to update the firmware manually to fix an issue I'm having with the player. The instructions state there is an "update firmware" option from the home screen. On my player - there is a settings option - with a sub-menu of system settings. From there - I have an upgrade firmware option - but only for doing it over the internet.
I also can't find any way to do the update through the USB drive.

You can update by putting the downloaded firmware on a USB stick / drive and plugging it in to a USB port.
Latest firmware here:

Older firmware here:

Don't worry that its called rollback firmware you can also update with it if you are on an older firmware. However after the update it will say the there is new firmware, you can ignore this message.
Note. The firmware links above are for the North American model.
WDTV Live Streaming; WDTV Live; WD Live Hub; My Book Live. Running Windows XP on a PC / Laptop. Netgear modem router with WiFi (G) plus AV powerline adaptors.
