Unable to start HDMI

Hi everyone. I have purchased my second WDTV Live player together with new but prety simple LG LCD TV 32LD450. I have never used HDMI before that and thought that everything should start by itself as usually works with WDTV. But it didn't - my TV return mesage "No signal" for that input. Have to mention that I have upgraded to latest Firmware right after purchase.

Today I have continued tests with other cables and TV to nail the problem. Results are:

1) Philips 32PFL8484 displays spladh screen when WDTV boots but in RED instead of blue - then "No signal message again"

2) Samsung 46L7705WS - not even splash screen shown.

All cables work normally with other devices including one I have purchased.

Any ideas?

You are correct, when you are using HDMI the WD box should communicate with the TV and auto-negotiate a proper video setting that is suitable for your TV. It should just work all by itself. However, there have been numerous posts on this forum about the auto-negotiation not working correctly with certain TVs and getting problems like you are having now.

Usually, you can go into the WD setup menu and manually set the video resolution/frequency and color space values to something that your TV supports, but if your TV does not display anything, it will be impossible to do this. You can try connecting the composite video output of the WD box to your TV so that you can see the WD setup screen, manually set the video output to HDMI (and set a resolution/frequency and color space value that your TV supports), and then switch your TV to the HDMI input.

In your case however, since you have already tried multiple TVs and cables, you might just have gotten a bad box. Try the composite video method that I described. If that still does not work, then you probably have a bad box.

Re: Unable to start HDMI

Thank you for reply - I went to Retailer where I've bought my device and exchanged it to another one. This one works pretty fine so far.:smileyvery-happy:
