WD Live TV Plus Freezes

Hi All,
I have purchased this new WD TV Live Plus media player two days back, but unfortunately it doesn't work properly.
I just tried to do simple test to see if its working right or not.  I have hooked it up to my Samsung LCD TV
and connected my Passport drive to WD TV Live Plus media player , when I try to view the photos it hangs up and

freezes.  I am not even able to goto the photo folders that are on my passport drive using the WD TV Live media player remote control.  The remote also freezes up, not sure if the issue is with the unit itself or I am doing something wrong.

I removed my passport harddisk from WD TV Live Plus and connected the ethernet cable to see if I can view any live photos, but even that doesn't work.

Any help/suggestions regarding this would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Re: WD Live TV Plus Freezes

This happened in my machine too if i have my Passport elite and ethernet  WIRELESS OR WIRED are hooked at the same time.  But if disconect my passport it's flawless .. if i connect my passport without ethernet it worked fine.

It seems that this unit can't handle both the ethernet & my passport elite at the same time..

Have you find a solutions to your issue ? am sending my mine for a replacment ..

Thank you for sharing your experience, I have sent mine back for return.  Not sure what will happen, mostly

they might return my money back.

Re: WD Live TV Plus Freezes

only time i have ever had mine freeze or stutter, is if i'm watching a movie and also ripping something on the PC.  too much memory from the PC will slow down the transfer rate to the WDTV i'm guessing.

Re: WD Live TV Plus Freezes

I'm havin' the same problem. definitely a bug... or there are tons of defective units out there. I tried  3 different units already and all units behaves the same. In my case, I was using a USB wifi internet adapter to connect (the same USB internet adapter works for my WD Live flawless but not for the plus). It will let me connect but it freezes and the only way to start it back up is to unplug the power. It's frustrating! I bought the unit 2 months ago so I can't get a refund but wd said that they can replace the unit UNLIMITED as long as you still have the 1 year warranty.

Welcome to the forums.

We'd need a little more information -- when you say "freezes up" do you mean it doesn't display the media, or starts to play something but then stops?  And how are you connecting -- net shares or media server?

Okay, but it might not have been a defective unit (but rather "user error").

Re: WD Live TV Plus Freezes

i've noticed this happens when the thumbnails are being loaded, doesnt matter if it's wifi connected, lan connected or direct usb connected. once loading alot of thumbnails it will lock up, i've tested it out on three units now. all 3 wd tv live plus units have the same problem. i normally use the folder.jpg file to change the image of the movie folder to display the movie poster and each file is resampled 320x474 - 72dpi and it still locks up and you have to unplug the power. the problem occurs more frequently with higher dpi and higher resolutions. for instance if you have pictures taken with a digital camera over 3 megapixels, i notice you have those lockups quicker. to replicate this jump from one folder to the next using thumbnails... bingo!

Re: WD Live TV Plus Freezes

I forgot to mention earlier before that I also work for an advertising company in the video editing department. since i got 3 of these units at home and the family enjoys it, I got this great brain of an idea that we could use it at work to demo our finished ad's on a large screen tv for the clients. Since there are so many versions to the tv ads we normally create a folder with the clients image as the folder image and place all the different version ads below the folder. This is where we noticed the lockups, it's the many folder thumbnails that cuz the unit to lockup. I believe it may be the way the unit caches the thumbnail images. If you change the option to just list mode, you won't get these lockups but that is such a bad way to view your pictures..!
