no sound on mkv file

Like others, I am experiencing no sound on several mkv  files. I feel sure it is a codec issue with the WD Media center, and untill there is a update I will probably need to redo the audio on certain files. Can someone recommend a program and the correct setting to covert the audio ?

cheers

Re: no sound on mkv file

Welcome to the forums.

If your problem is the file was created by a later version of MKVMerge (you can tell this by using the freeware MediaInfo to examine it -- if it says anything later than 4.0 then that's the issue) you can correct it by using an earlier version of that program (or turn off video and audio header compression in the track options).  The good news is that there is a firmware fix for this coming, but it may be a while (i.e. a month or two?).

If that's not the problem we'd need to see more details (post the log from the Media Info program for us to help).

Re: no sound on mkv file

Rather than start a new thread, I'll borrow this one.  I have the same issue - .mkv files usually play perfectly but a couple I have acquired in the last couple of days have no sound.

For one, Windows Media Player classic identifies the audio as 6ch, but mediainfo seems to contradict that, and gives the following output:

I think the issue with the other file is the same, as I think they were encoded by the same person.  I'm hoping there is some easy program I can run over these files to "fix" the audio so it works on the WD.

Thanks in advance!

Re: no sound on mkv file

Well, you can always try the older version of Mkvmerge (4.0 or earlier -- there are lots of links in these forums on where to get it, or you can Google it).  Remxuing can't hurt and it might help.

If not there are more advanced things that can be tried but try that first.

If anybody uses this download link don't forget that you will download the latest version. You will need to turn off header compression on both audio and video or you may run into problems.
