3.01.19 - Changes Folder Thumbnail Automatically??

I have thumbnail pictures (.jpg) for the different folders on my Hub.. (example - Inside the HD MOVIES folder there is a picture called folder.jpg - and that picture is the icon for that folder....

Well, when i installed firmware 3.01.19 - it overrides the folder.jpg picture with one of the thumbnails for a movie that is in that folder... I assume this has to do something with the new way thumbnails are saved as .metathumb files...

I have tried rolling back the firmware.. but it makes no difference...

anyone else experiencing this issue?? please advise... Thank you for your time!

Re: 3.01.19 - Changes Folder Thumbnail Automatically??

This should not happen (at least in my experience). I am running 3.01.19 and had upgraded from a 2.x FW version in which I had done all my sorting of movies etc. I have my movies split into folders of genres. In genere folder are the three files for each movie, an ISO, an XML and a JPEG (for the cover). Amidst all of these sets of three I have the one file folder.jpg depicting what I want the genre's folder to look like. The folder.jpgs I made and am using are 500x700 pixels at 96 DPI.

When I did my upgrade two months or so ago, I had no issues and the HUB continued to see the folder.jpgs I made for each genre folder correctly. Note that I am using the media library, and the folders are on a remote drive on another machine (actually a external drive on a WDLivePlus in another room). Point being though, the upgrade did not affect this at all. Picture below is what mine look like. I know the Hub uses the .metathumb but I do not think that effects folders that you created and JPGs you made that are not associated with a specific movie. the getinfo should be just finding JPGs for movies that it knows about, not your folders.

So, although I dont have an answer for you, to me this should not have happened. Once overwritten though, rolling back certainly is not going to bring back your old files.

Here are some of my folder icons that I made under 2.x and are still there in 3.x. Shoud be a smooth transistion. This is in Mojo sorted by folder.

Re: 3.01.19 - Changes Folder Thumbnail Automatically??

Try this.

1. Set the Hub in stand-by by momentarily pressing the power button on the remote.

2. Across the network, rename the "flolder.jpg" to "_folder.metathumb"

3. Delete the "thumbs" folder in "wd_tv"

4. Turn the Hub back on and navigate through your folder structure.

Yes when a metathumb is created inside a folder the first metathumb will become that icon for the folder and override any jpg you have to delete the metathumbs  ( I am assuming you have thumbnails already) then unplug the Wd and let it power back up and it should go back to the way it was

Re: 3.01.19 - Changes Folder Thumbnail Automatically??

I am curious about something, I have 2 WD's on the same network getting the same info from the same source [NAS] they both were giveing all the right images and thumbnails. I had cause to drop one back to earlier firmware and then forward to present firmware, they are both on the latest firmware now. But only the one that wasnt changed gives me the images fully the other changed one is not. what have I done wrong as I have forgotten the whole  process to set this up properly, is there a link somewhere to explain it to me again. thanks

Re: 3.01.19 - Changes Folder Thumbnail Automatically??

There is already a Issue Report on this matter which can be found here: http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Hub-Issue-Reporting/folder-jpg-not-displaying-in-UI-when-a-lt...

The manual/temporary solution for the latest FW version is mentioned in the comments of that Issue Report:

Thanks to @Coyote this works for me: So instead of folder.jpg > _folder.metathumb in each genre folders works.

Thanks for the response but i havve fixed my dilemma another way. It turns out that all the info was there but beause i was using a NAS and i was no longer starting fom the root directory to go to my movies it for some reason was not getting the images and moviesheets. Now it does so i am happy again.

Re: 3.01.19 - Changes Folder Thumbnail Automatically??

[ Edited ]

Hey guys, some please help me with this if you can, I have a new WD TV live hub, and I have all my thumbnails working except the main folder thunbmails.

They were working fine, I started by putting each movie file (mkv) in a seperate foler, this is the normal way I store local movies.

When I did it that way my main folder thumbnails worked fine just named folder.jpg or !folder.jpg, it did not seem to matter as long as it was the first jpeg in the folder, because at that time there were no movie files directly in the main directory, only in sub directories. When setup that way, the folder.jpg image was the only thumbnail in that dir.

But I then moved all my movie files out in to the main MOVIE directory, because it shows the information for each movie as you scoll much better than a bunch of directories you have to go in to, to see movei info etc...

Now my main folder is seeing the thumbnail for the movie that starts with 30 in it, I guess from this file "30 min.metathumb" I tried making a copy of the folder.jpg and renaming it "_folder.metathumb" but it still wants to use "30 min.metathumb" instead.

I am going to try more things, like renaming "_folder.metathumb" to "1.metathumb" and ill let you know how that goes, but I have tried allot of things, and am having a hard time so far, why is this that hard, can there not just be a option that if a folder.jpg exists use that over ANY thing else? seems easy to me.

Re: 3.01.19 - Changes Folder Thumbnail Automatically??

Rename any METATHUMB files to JPG.

Keep your folder.jpg file as-is.

Delete the thumbnail cache from the internal drive.

Reboot.

Re: 3.01.19 - Changes Folder Thumbnail Automatically??

Really did not want to rename all metathumbs, I only change the ones on the folders I needed fixed to 1.metathumb and that worked for me, I had tried _.metathumb and !folder.metathumb, folder.jpg etc.. and nothing worked for me till this.
