Improved audio browsing

I think the audio browsing is pretty poor really, especially when you have a large music collection.  Most people browse music by artist, and then by album.

At present if you filter the audio by Artist, then select your artist of choice you get a list of all their tracks across all their albums.  You should get a list of that Artist's albums to then select.

Also, a better means of jumping/stepping through a large list of folders is required.  In Windows, for example, you can jump to the first folder beginning with 't' by pressing 't'.  In the live hub why not use the number pad on the remote control to offer the same facility?  If the user is presented with a huge list of folders, then pressing 5 twice would bring up the letter 'k', which would then jump to the folders beginning with 'k'.  This would allow much faster browsing.

@bessa, click the vote button. It's the button with the big UP arrow on it. Typing '+1' or '/sign' doesn't count as a vote for the idea. WD look at the Kudos / Vote number.

I find the audio browsing so bad that  I dont the live hub for audio.. I have my music layed out

artist / album /cd1

                        / cd2

I cant make heads or tails of what its pulled out.. I'd have just liked to browse the folder structure.

@Cryton2707

Yep. I use the folder structure too for locating music.  The problem with this method is that you have to drill down the folder structure from the root before you get to the artists folders (network_sync/pc-name/Music/...)

Hi, i'm new to this media player, I love it, it seems to play everything, However the music library is worse than the very old media gate it replaces.  I like to brows the folder structuer as you folks mention.

Artist  / Album / Tracks

The Mediagate MG35 did that (slowly) however you couldnt just keep selecting files for it to queue in a playlist, like all normal media players will, Musicmatch Jukebox, VLC, even Microsoft.

Now I haev a new one and it balks at the 60gb of music files I have collected over the last 10 years.  I know the tag info for the files is shot for a lot of  the colection.  A lot came from vinyl with MMJB that only had track numbers as I was too lazy to enter all the text.  but it worked before using the file system.  now even using the folder view it's useless as you can't add files to playlist  let allone surf and play.  this is very dissapointing.

Even my first turntable would let you stack singles up and play them one after the other.  OK only three then they would skid.

Pleas can you have a look at that.

Also the optical out is very loud and you can't turn it down (you could with the coax SPDIF on the old thing.

i could not believe my eyes when browsed the audio library for the first time,

there is grouping (filter - dont know why filter is grouping, makes no sense to me) only by one level

i have android phone that can do more than that,

we need to have access like artist -> albums -> tracks or genre ->  albums -> tracks

please do something about this,  cos as i saw (read) almost everyone is using the hub only as folder browser and not as media library player

lol I thought the Artist>Album hierarchy disappeared only after upgrading to 2.07.17...

this is one of the most basic functions of even the cheapest mp3 players. Unbelievable that a top-of-the-range box like the wdtv hub does not have it.

We need it asap

I agree ... I assumed it would do this, got an XBOX now and was thinking of just using my WD HD as a expensive external hard drive, but XBOX does not support FLAC, can i be bothered converting all my audio ... NO. If WD fixed this, that would make me very very happy
